Winter seepage turns the sandstone escarpment near Munising into ice curtains and pillars. Sand Point Road serves the inland climbing areas; Miners Falls is a separate winter objective. Formations usually develop from December into early spring, but climbable ice is never guaranteed. Munising Falls is closed to climbing. Use the park’s current winter guidance for access and conditions. Airport drive estimates end near Sand Point Beach and exclude the approach and winter delays.
